No one, including juveniles who are dumped, should lose the right of privacy and confidentiality of their mental health treatment and records.

Confidentiality of one's health records is fundamental to our health care system. It is one of the few things as a system that is to be commended.

For example, when my mother-in-law was in the hospital being treated for cancer, she wanted to see her medical records. She sent my wife to the medical records department to get them. However, my wife was not allowed to do so on the basis of patient privacy and confidentiality.

The hospital required that her mother, on her death bed, provide a letter with a notary public seal stating she gave permission for her daughter to get her records.

However, the rest of the hearing should have been open. That said, in Maryland it is not unusual to close hearings of juveniles that concern "family matters" on the basis of providing confidentiality and anonymity to the juvenile as opposed to criminal cases which are open.Jackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02592011074161650969noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8218043436888772778.post-87435080646971941692008-11-24T15:25:00.000-05:002008-11-24T15:25:00.000-05:00In the course of getting all the details into this...In the course of getting all the details into this piece I left off the outcome of the class action suit.

Please see this page for Nebraska Appleseed's take on the tail end of the suit.

Unfortunately, in January 2007, Judge Richard Kopf chose to not to hear the claims of these young Plaintiffs and dismissed the case.

Which is to say that rather than examining the details of what the kids were undergoing and the issues involved, the case was dismissed.Lauren Sabina Kneislyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10884130321084908557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8218043436888772778.post-44650138249241937312008-11-24T12:53:00.000-05:002008-11-24T12:53:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8218043436888772778.post-45388316425953336212008-11-23T14:21:00.000-05:002008-11-23T14:21:00.000-05:00A mere 38 hours ago, I wrote: ...tonight, as Nebra...A mere 38 hours ago, I wrote:

...tonight, as Nebraska attempts in vain to close this chapter of its legalized child abandonment social experiment... .

It was perfectly obvious what was going to come next.Lauren Sabina Kneislyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10884130321084908557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8218043436888772778.post-41200635942368185692008-11-22T17:54:00.000-05:002008-11-22T17:54:00.000-05:00Nebraska DHHS has added a press release about the ...Nebraska DHHS has added a press release about the the boy from California.Lauren Sabina Kneislyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10884130321084908557noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8218043436888772778.post-23410800997463188592008-11-22T10:51:00.000-05:002008-11-22T10:51:00.000-05:00Thanks folks! And the same is true of infant abandonment in these so-called "safe havens"!

How can anyone use the phrase "family values" and allow such violation of any possibility of counseling for a family at the breaking point in crisis? In what other area of society do we allow permanent decisions to be made by people in crisis? They expected trembling young, single moms buying into the MYTH that their lives would be ruined and that they, themselves, would be future abusers. What they got were people having problems with their adolescents which is a story as old as civilization. Well, as the rock singer put it, "You don't always get what you want." As was said on the other blog...this would be funny if it weren't so tragic.Robinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07580241881953821182noreply@blogger.com
